John Fossey answered on 13 Jun 2016:

when I was an undergraduate I realised designing catalysts is like designing new tools. Making new tools allows other to dream of new ways to make things, so I can give others new tools for their tool kits to make things I could not dream of.

Similarly, I was frustrated to learn that it is physically impossible to directly “see” molecules. So I often wondered if I cant see them can I feel them, and the closest I can come to that is designing a catalyst that can hold a molecule and turn it into another.
