I try to make an opinion of someone on a case by case basis so can’t say that I like ALL gay people but I have never decided I don’t like someone because they are gay, I have lots of gay, bisexual and heterosexual friends and I am happy if they are happy with themselves and who they are.

I’d second Ruth’s comments. You can’t exactly label someone because of a personal choice or make any particular judgement about the rest of their personality or life because of it.

It’s like saying I’m a good scientist because I wear glasses, it kind of misses the point somewhat.

I think they are fab! They are being who they want to be and good on them! I think everyone should be able to love who they want without question and judgement! They are also very brave as they often face abuse from some narrow minded people. I applaud them!

If you are asking because you want to know if science is an inclusive career then rest assured science is an open, non-judgemental environment accepting of all. To highlight that – last year my university was ranked among the top gay-friendly employers http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/latest/2015/01/stonewall-top-100-employers-2015.aspx

But if you mean, do I form an opinion of a person based on sexual orientation then I am a bit disappointed by the question. What do I think of group of people x (race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, physical abilities, etc.) is not not an appropriate question. I would strongly argue with you if you think seeking an answer to the opinions of group of people y (scientist) on group of people x (gay people) is appropriate. x sometimes equals y the two are not mutually exclusive.
