I think femanism gets a bad press and really all it means is that men and women are equal and deserve equal rights. Which I think most people will agree with! I think now and throughout history there are a lot of cases where both men and women get unfair treatment because of their gender and I would like to see that reduced!

I think it is very important regardless of ones own gender equal rights should be an unmistakable obvious truth

I think it is extremely important. Women have not always had equal treatment and it isn’t very fair. I would call myself a feminist but as Ruth says, it gets bad press. Many people think of feminists as men hating people who don’t shave their legs. I am actually very girly! I wear makeup and do my nails etc. but it doesn’t make me less of a feminist.

In fact, men can be feminists too! It’s simply wanting men and women to be equal, although many people think the world is outdated and we should use a word that isn’t so woman-centred.

To be honest, like a number of areas of thinking, looking at people defining and explaining the term feminism, particularly in the media and arguments, gets a bit like trying to nail a fish to a wall. Quite frankly, it gets a bit messy and everyone launches into an argument about who made the mess.

Far as I am concerned gender equality is a thing, and it is a thing that isn’t here yet, but we should move towards it as fast as possible.

If its called feminism, or another term, doesn’t hugely bother me either way. Let’s just get it done though, and stop messing around.
