Very important.
Being happy at work means that you wiork with pride at your job.
It also means that you are valued by your employer and colleagues
Money is a part of how you feel about your job bu for me it is not as important as he fact that I work with very large chemistry sets. Somehting I enjoyed using at home when I was just getting interested in Science at the age of 7-11.
It’s hard to find a job you feel happy in as before you start it’s hard to know what it will be like exactly. For example you want to do the kind of work you like (like research) but also be able to live in a nice place, work with good and fun people, have good hours (becuase life outside of work is important too).
I was really thrilled to get my job, I saw the description of the project and it sounded so exciting. Also when you start it is important to make your role fit around you and how you work. The really great thing about being a PhD student and working at a university is that you work with a lot of other young people with similar interests so it is really easy to make friends even if you move to a completely different area. The important thnig is if you try out a job and don’t like it there is always an oppertunity to leave and do a different job, just hopefully you pick up some skills from each one to take forward to the new job 🙂
