The ninth planet is in an orbit that goes right to the edge of our solar system, has a mass about 10 times that of Earth and orbits about 20 times farther from the sun on average than does Neptune (which orbits the sun at an average distance of 2.8 billion miles). They’ve modelled the idea and think it should be there but haven’t actually seen it yet!

They are looking into finding it with some fancy telescope!

The BBC explain in this article why it wasn’t found before too! They’ll obviously know more once they actually see it.

The issue is where is the edge of the solar system? We still haven’t decided where that is!

An interesting point of trivia is that the leader in all this is the guy who killed Pluto. Losing one planet and gain another perhaps?

With the discovery of Sedna and other far reaching objects, it seems doubtful that there would just be the one object out there. Depending how you want to define the different belts of objects as in or outside our solar system I suspect there’s a heck of a lot buzzing around out there we can’t see.

Naturally, with orbits of hundreds or thousands of AUs, does it even matter anymore? Pretty far out and almost impossible to get to within any reasonable timeframe.
